Activities of Your Choice

At Kingswood, you have the freedom to choose what activities you want to add to your calendar. We simply supply an abundance of offerings. You can increase and maintain your vitality through programs offered on site by our Active Living Department, including aquatics and fitness programs. Many other activities, such as off-site cultural excursions and sports events, are exciting ways to stimulate and energize your life.

  • Chair exercise for range of motion/joint flexibility.

  • Exercises and techniques to improve balance and strengthen extremities led by an exercise physiologist.

  • OSTEO-FIT
  • A combination of light strengthening and stretching.

  • TAI CHI
  • Chinese form of slow movement, breathing and focus on relaxation.

  • WALKING CLUB
  • Residents walk measured routes in and outside the building and record mileage for incentives.

  • FITNESS EQUIPMENT
  • Wellness Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with professional assistance Monday through Friday.

  • BIBLE CLASS
  • An introduction to the Bible. The history, cultural, social and geography of the Holy Land.

  • BIBLE “101”
  • Lecture/discussion group lead by Chaplain.

  • SOULMATES
  • A monthly prayer group of residents and staff.

  • LITERARY LITE
  • Appreciation for American Classics, reading discussion, short stories prose and authors.

  • CARD NIGHT
  • Bridge/Pinochle/Uno/Canasta

  • BELTONE
  • A representative from Beltone will check, clean and install batteries for hearing aides.

  • SHOPPING
  • Rotate from Ward Parkway, Oak Park, Target and Walmart.
  • Bus picks up at 2 p.m.

  • LIBRARY
  • Red Bridge library.

  • TRIVIAL PURSUIT
  • Table game of trivia. Fun in learning.

  • MOBILE POSTAL
  • Postal van parks at entrance. Purchase stamps, money orders, weigh mail and mail packages.

  • BLOOD PRESSURE
  • Clinic staff checks blood pressure.

  • COMPUTER
  • Internet/e-mail opportunities in Epworth Business Center.

  • FUN NIGHT
  • Bingo! One dollar donation will get you up to three cards.

  • KRIER FOLDING
  • Volunteer opportunity to fold newsletters for distribution.

  • CLASSICAL MUSIC
  • Quiet listening to your favorite classical music on the Bose Stereo System.
  • First and Third Monday 7:15 p.m.

  • CANCER ACTION/KNITTERS
  • Sewing/knitting, soup, social and service. Group community service project, cutting, assembling and basting hems for cancer bed patients.

  • COMMUNION
  • Call for more information.

  • MOVIE NIGHT
  • A variety of movies with varied ratings loaned by residents and staff.

  • GREAT DECISIONS
  • Group discussion with workbooks and video on world affairs. Community speaker once a month.

  • SUPPORT GROUPS
  • Comfort in knowing you’re not alone. Lead by Chaplain, Occupational Therapist and volunteers.
  • Caregivers, Changing Seasons, Holiday Support, Compassionate Friends, Diabetic Support, and Alzheimer’s and Visual Impaired.

  • RESIDENT ASSOCIATION
  • Every resident is a member of our resident association, a group who works cooperatively with administration in decision-making on matters directly affecting the interest and well-being of our residents.

  • BOARD GAMES
  • A variety of board and card games are available.

  • KINGSWOOD CHORUS
  • A group of residents and staff who enjoy singing and rehearsing for seasonal programs.

  • OUTINGS
  • Monthly bus trips to neighboring sights are planned with lunch at a restaurant.

  • SEASON TICKETS
  • Season tickets for Missouri Rep. Theatre, Symphony, Ballet, William Jewell Concerts, Harriman Arts, Heartland Theatre and Windows On the World (travelogues) are available through the Community Wellness Program during renewal periods.

  • SWIMMING
  • Classes and lap swimming available at Kingswood Aquatic Center.

  • BANK
  • Country Club Bank branch on site.

  • ORGAN MUSIC
  • Enjoy organ music played by one of our residents prior to our Sunday Vespers service.

  • COMMITTEES
  • Our Resident Association, governing body, enlisted volunteers for 10 committees to address specific interests of the community: Activity Committee, Food Committee, Outings Committee, Welcome Committee, Outdoor Recreation Committee, Worship Committee, Safety Committee, Building Services Committee, Library Committee, Art Gallery Committee. Residents sign up at the end of each year, but can join a committee anytime throughout the year.

  • BIRTHDAY PARTY
  • Residents are honored during their birthday month at a party where all residents are invited to participate.

  • CATHOLIC LAY SERVICE
  • Mass first Friday of the month.

  • BANK TRIP
  • Kingswood driver drops residents off at neighborhood banks for quick business. Then rotates back for pick ups. Call the front desk for list of banks and to sign up.

  • KRIER READING
  • A resident reads the Krier publication aloud.

  • LUNCH OUT
  • A restaurant is selected and transportation is scheduled.

  • PAINTING CLASS
  • Beginning drawing and watercolor classes.

  • BIG BAND MUSIC
  • The sounds of the 20s, 30s and 40s band music played on the Bose Stereo System.

  • SOCIAL HOUR
  • Enjoy a glass of wine as you meet neighbors before dinner. One dollar buys two glasses of wine.

  • UMKC STUDIES
  • Course studies offered twice a year through UMKC SPARK senior education program.
